Nothing will happen as long as the bath bomb remains dry. But, as soon as it comes into contact with water, an acid-base reaction occurs between two ingredients—citric acid and bicarbonate of soda—and the fizzing begins! Carbon dioxide is released creating the zillions of bubbles that make bath time with these bath bomb such fun.
This bubbly duo is non-toxic and biodegradable. Citric acid is a natural ingredient found in most fruit, particularly citrus – which explains its name! And bicarbonate of soda is a veritable hall-of-fame ingredient in natural beauty products.
